• Laughter is the most important element of my artwork. I see my ceramics as both art and entertainment. Over the years my work has evolved in scale, range, style, and popularity. I try to evoke humor with puns and visual imagery, and bring vibrant color to the location that my work is displayed. Now I have expanded from tabletop functional pieces to works for the garden. Adding a feeling of whimsy with a touch of “Alice in Wonderland”.
  • My roots are in figurative sculpture and watercolor – I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California. Since 1989 I have lived outside the Seattle area with my husband and three children. There, I have been showing at many fine crafts fairs and galleries, locally and throughout the US and Canada. I think of each piece as a sculpture and glaze with bold colors to dramatize the form. The patterns range from literal interpretations of objects and events to abstract designs.
  • I begin production by creating a prototype of solid clay. Then, I make a mold and slip casting the form, using a white earthenware clay body fired to Cone 05. I meticulously glaze each piece using a wide variety of under glazes. Because designs are hand painted, each one has an individual quality. My pottery is then finished with a clear, food-safe glaze. Some designs are accented with metallic lusters.
  • I create these ceramics to be used, collected and enjoyed. The food-safe glaze makes them functional as tableware, and their uniqueness makes them a valuable addition to any collection.
